The Visitor Centre

Open 9.30 am - 4.30 pm

The Visitor Centre is situated above the carpark and provides a first introduction and orientation for visitors to the Gardens. The Visitor Centre also houses the Botanical Bookshop and the exhibition space.

The Visitor Information Desk is staffed from 9:30am to 4:30pm seven days a week. Staff can provide maps of the Gardens, brochures and advice on places to visit within the Gardens.

Guided walks, run by the Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens, leave from the Visitor Centre twice a day at 11.00am and 2.00pm.

Staff at the Visitor Information Desk can help to direct visitors to the location of specific plants within the Gardens, or assist with botanical enquires.

A Plant Identification Service is offered by the Gardens, plant specimens can be left at the Visitor Information Desk to be identified by botanists from the Australian National Herbarium.

  • Two wheelchairs and two electric scooters are available for use by visitors, free of charge. Bookings are recommended. Bookings may be made in person at the Visitor Centre or by telephone on 02 6250 9540. We regret that bookings cannot be accepted via email.
  • First Aid and Emergency Assistance is available from the Visitor Information Desk.
  • The Theatrette, Dickson Room and public toilets are located in the Administration building foyer, directly opposite the Visitor Centre entrance.
