Born 1959.
Botanist, Officer at Department of Environment and Resource Management Cairns, Queensland.
Graduated BSc Hons (1981),
PhD from University of NSW (1987) with interests in Anacardiaceae and tropical
Scrophulariaceae (especially Limnophila & Lindernia) and on Hibiscus systematics.
Bruce has been a Kuranda resident for over 20 years [in 2025].
He is a botanist who has worked in the biological sciences for over 30 years. For the last 18 he has been working FNQ as a environmental consultant and for the Queensland government as a biodiversity planner. He is currently working on Cape York partnerships with DATSIP.
He is particularly interested in groundcover and understorey plant species and has a personal herbarium of over 3,000 species.
He has published
on infrafamilial systematics of Anacardiaceae and revision of Australian Limnophila.
As of 2025 has collected over 11,000 specimens mostly north-west New South Wales,
Kakadu and north-east Queensland and Cape York Peninsula
(housed at UNSW, BRI, NSW & personal collection).
He is a committee member of the Kuranda Envirocare volunteer community organisation based in Kuranda, a part of the bioregion of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area in Far North Queensland, Australia.
