Pennie Hohnen and Joan Graham created history within CSIRO when in 1989 they became the first people to apply and be accepted in a job-share position.
The following ten year journey after that took many turns and presented a variety of challenges for Pennie as the Australian National Herbarium moved foward in databasing an management.
These included:
- Completing the UNIX course run by the University of NSW.
- Becoming Database Manager of the initial ANHSIR.
- Creating the first User Guide for ANHSIR.
- Supervising the data capture projects for ERIN in Poaceae and Myrtaceae.
- Co-ordinating the Continent-wide Eucalyptus project known as 'EUCLID'.
- Mastering Mapinfo and its interface with ANHSIR.
- Involvement in the Biorap Project.
- Being part of the national HISCOM meetings.
- Updating the collection in line with the ROTAP publication.
- Being a co-author of the CSIRO Handbook of Australian Weeds.
- Visiting Indonesia as part of the World Bank project to restore the Bogor Herbarium.
Her other life included:
- Tennis
- Bridge
- Piano
- Drawing
- Gardening.
Pennie left the Herbarium early in 2001.
