Earle was a traveller and artist. Born in London to American parents, Earle visited Europe and North and South America before arriving in Sydney in 1825.
He sketched and painted widely in New South Wales. He spent time with Charles Darwin on the Beagle, but poor health forced him to return to London, where he died.
