Following graduation he joined the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales and after being appointed to the Clarence River District was called to the Glen Innes Charge in 1902, succeeding his father, the Rev. He was a friend of the Rev. E. N. McKie and did many collecting trips with him in the New England area; as a member of the Glen Innes Cemetery Trust he helped towards beautifying the grounds by tree planting. A son and a grandson became foresters.
