About the Volunteer Guides

The Volunteer Guides play a vital and important role for the Gardens through their interaction with visitors. Being a Volunteer Guide allows you to be part of a group of like-minded enthusiasts who enjoy spending time in a beautiful and ever-changing environment and learning more about Australian plants. You will have the opportunity to communicate to visitors from Australia and the world, about our unique flora and goals of the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

Volunteer Guides offer twice daily free guided walks every day of the year the Gardens is open. The first free guided walk was held in 1992 and 2013 is the 21st year the Gardens have provided daily free guided walks to the public. With new programs and projects at the Gardens the opportunity for Volunteer Guides is increasing. Guides also offer guided tours on Flora Explorer and when Red Centre garden opens later in 2013 guides will play an important role in interpreting this new garden to visitors
Applications for volunteer guides are now open.
