NEWS RELEASE

High winds close Australian National Botanic Gardens

Most sections of the Australian National Botanic Gardens have been closed to the public today because of the danger posed by high wind conditions.

Today's blustery wind conditions have already brought down a number of branches, and the Gardens beyond the front entrance precinct will be closed for the day.

Public safety is paramount and this closure is necessary to ensure visitor's protection.

Barricades have been placed across all roads, paths and tracks leading into the Gardens past the main car parks, Cafe and Bookshop.

The last time the Gardens closed was on 14 February 2001, following major storm damage the previous day.

For further information call the Visitor Centre (02) 6250 9540.
