Coryphopteris Holtt.
Terrestrial ferns of small to moderate size. Rhizome an erect caudex, subarborescent (to 30 cm tall), rarely creeping, radially symmetric, dictyostelic, bearing many roots and broad, brown scales mostly without superficial and marginal acicular hairs, such scales also present on stipes. Fronds long-stipitate, the stipe dark throughout or paler distaly, with 2 vascular bundles at the base uniting upward into a single U-shaped vascular strand, lamina pinnate with pinnately deeply lobed pinnae, sometimes the basal lobes free, apex never pinna-like, the basal acroscopic lobe of pinna often enlarged and dentate, margins otherwise entire or toothed, basal pinnae little or not reduced, rarely gradually much-reduced, aerophores at bases of pinnae somewhat swollen, midribs of pinnae grooved above, but the grooves not confluent with rachis groove, reduced scales and unicellular, acicular hairs usually present on abaxial surfaces of axes, sometimes replaced by short, capitate hairs, sessile resinous glands (which may collapse on drying) +/- abundant in many species, adaxial surfaces with unicellular acicular hairs on axes sessile glands or hairs sometimes present between the veins, veins in a pinnate group in each pinna-lobe, free, simple, rarely once-forked, terminating in the margin above the sinus membrane. Sori round or asymmetric, indusiate, rarely exindusiate, indusium glandular or hairy; sporanjia on a short, 2-seriate stalk, lacking hairs or glands, sometimes with a sessile gland on the sporangium stalk, the annulus longitudinal interrupted. Spores monolete, pale, with a continuous wing and several (rarely many) cross wings.
