Born in Hanover, Germany, on 8 July 1840, died on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, on 12 October 1923.
Emigrated to Australia in 1872; Government gardener at Palmerston (Darwin), 18781891; later Director, Botanic Garden of Adelaide, South Australia. Holtze collected for Mueller: his specimens are in MEL (perhaps also in NSW?).
