Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria
Born in Melbourne, Anita Barley (nee Podwyszynski) 1955.
Trained as a graphic artist at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1977, she was appointed as the botanical artist for the National Herbarium of Victoria (Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne).
She was the major illustrator for Flora of Victoria and also provided the illustrations for Flora of Australia, as well as producing hundreds of drawings and paintings for scientific botanical publications. After leaving the Botanic Gardens in 1992, Barley has continued to produce illustrations for scientific papers and publications, as well as botanical paintings and commissions.
She has twice been awarded the Celia Rosser Medal for botanical art, in 2002 and 2006.
